OverviewDickey Seed International, Inc. (DSI) is an established agri-business company located near Rome, Georgia for over 40 years. Having first obtained its standing as the largest contract producer, processor and provider of certified soy seed in the Southeastern United States, the Company has now expanded its contract plantation timber production into the Tropics of South America. DSI is presently contracting with individual and institutional investors/producers to participate in the establishment of approximately 420,000 acres of fast growth timber (maturing in eight to ten years) of which is to be used in the making of high-grade plywood panels. DSI’s Achievements• Introduced commercial Canola production to Georgia Farmers. • Facilitated America’s first commercially manufactured Paulownia plywood • Introduced the tree species, Paulownia to Guyana, South America and Nicaragua, Central America. • Conducted the first 5-year adaptability trials on the growing of Paulownia in the American Tropics • Established America’s first complete, “Turn-key” planting-to-market program for plantation Paulownia. • Facilitated Japan’s first manufactured plywood made from American-grown plantation Paulownia trees. Introduction of The GCA TimberLot™ ProgramDSI officially got its new international agenda under way in March of 2006 when it launched the GCA TimberLot™ Program at the Annual Conference of the American Paulownia Association in Santee, South Carolina. The GCA TimberLot™ Program is the first such program offering Paulownia plantation tree growers/investors a complete planting-to-market initiative. Contracting Plantation Timber Production with DSI…DSI contracts much of its production acreage requirements through the GCA TimberLot™ Program. The GCA (Georgia Caribbean Association) is an association of domestic and foreign companies engaged in the production of ply log timber being grown on tree plantations. Member companies of the Association can furnish contract TimberLot™ producers with some or all of their input and production items. DSI acts as the Association’s contract buyer of producer trees, buying them from the contract producer as standing timber once the trees have reached “Harvestable Maturity” [140 board feet ply log volume per tree or ten year-old trees, whichever occurs first].
